Arrow Whispers - by Bettina Platzer

Arrow Whispers - by Bettina Platzer - Bogensportinfo
Bettina Platzer

We're all driven by an idea of how something should be, or even how we should be. Often, we rush from one tournament to the next, or while full of anticipation, we also have expectations. And when things don't go according to our expectations, we often lose ourselves in obsessive patterns from the past. We isolate ourselves, staring into the distance, without a thought for the traces we're leaving behind.

Because even if we forget it all too often, we do it all the time. Whether we mean to or not. Often only subconsciously and sometimes very visibly. A sentence, a look, a moment of silence that either creates separation or connection. That creates doubt or trust. We know that moment when we feel small and nothing works anymore, the way we know it, when everything is just right and every hit falls into place as if by itself. Yet in the first case, we are afraid to show ourselves vulnerable, and in the second, we often lack the necessary understanding for others. But what if we are no longer here? What if all that remains is nothing but the straight path we have traced and memories of distance? How do we give our lives more meaning? By achieving our goals, or by helping others? Isn't this very greatness that we give ourselves a feeling that also inspires us incredibly?

Of course, we all carry our own wounds, and we should also try to heal them ourselves. But if we ever find the courage to rip off the band-aids and allow these wounds to be visible, I'm sure we'll realize that a wound heals best when exposed to fresh air. It makes us more human, more authentic, and fosters connection. In this spirit, let's move a little closer to one another again.

I've recently experienced for myself what a profound mark an authentic person can leave behind when they're no longer with us, and how new branches continue to emerge from the path they've left behind. A gathering of old friends and the emergence of new ones. A helping hand that wasn't there before, or simply the enrichment of another beautiful experience, at the edge of one's own path.

Thank you, Mirjam Ressmann, for this wonderful, heartfelt, and useful memorial tournament! And thank you, Alex, for the legacy you left behind!
RIP Alexander Latzko
