Austrian sport is embedded in a complex network of institutions:
Umbrella organizations such as ASKÖ, ASVÖ, Union and the approximately 60 specialist associations, all of which have the purpose of promoting sport in general and competitive sport in particular with the help of funds from federal and state budgets, from lottery and TOTO funds, from advertising and sponsorship, from events and other sources.
Membership in an umbrella and professional association offers a club the opportunity to access funding and sports facilities, to receive information about national and international sporting events and to participate in them.
The ÖBSV and the clubs rely on volunteers who provide an invaluable amount of free work every year, without which no sport would be financially viable.
