Archery: From a niche sport to a family sport suitable for everyday life. Why is that? - Bogensportinfo

What characterizes a suitable family sport in today's fast-paced, digital world? In a time where we might think our goals, joy, and happiness are just a mouse click away? Where free time is a precious commodity, but can also be organized by ourselves. And yet we often spend it in front of the television, busy with our phones, or simply don't know what to do with ourselves.

We need a sport that captivates everyone, from the smallest to the largest, from young to old. A sport that brings us into nature and into touch, full of adventure and spiced with the scent of freedom. A sport that requires no physical fitness and is neither strenuous nor difficult to learn.

Everything has to be done spontaneously, without much effort, and fairly quickly, while also being affordable. Traditional archery combines all of these! Archery has a history spanning thousands of years. While the bow was still used as a weapon until the Middle Ages, it increasingly became a sporting device, making archery one of the oldest and most widespread sports practiced by humans.

Many people still vividly remember the playful crafting of a skid-bow with arrows and roaming through fields and forests. Names like William Tell and Robin Hood come to mind, and one senses a sense of freedom and adventure. Even though archery developed into a rather elitist and difficult sport over the last century, even becoming an Olympic sport, and was practiced almost exclusively in squares or halls at fixed, consistent ranges with no surprises, this sport has been experiencing a renaissance in recent years.
