Referee, please pick up the phone!

Referee, please pick up the phone! - Bogensportinfo
Manfred Hanus

Of course, the phrase originates from football, and from an era when you had to leave the pitch to make a phone call – and I only heard it once last weekend. The person said, "I was just kidding"... and I still hope so to this day .

In any case, it was my first assignment as a newly qualified B-referee.

Studying the rules certainly helps. Participating in the procedures as a referee helps even more. There are many things that can't be covered with theory, even if it's "written in there somewhere."

The conclusion of the weekend is a very positive one. On the one hand, because I received tremendous and, of course, very professional support from Manfred Piesinger (my A-level referee), and on the other, because of the equally great support (and patience) from the shooters present. And, of course, not to mention tournament director Daniel and shooting director Speedy from TBS Liezen – without them, I probably wouldn't have survived the weekend at all.

As a newbie, I had to attend an IFAA and WA competition right away. It wasn't all that easy! The differences may not be too significant in some cases, but they do exist, and... you have to keep them separate and use them on the right days.

Manfred helped me a lot and also instructed me in many things for future tournaments. Routine is by no means a substitute for expert knowledge and precise riding, but it helps immensely!

Thank you all & see you next time
at the ÖM IFAA in Niederöblarn, Manfred
