3D archery

3D archery - Bogensportinfo

Shooting at plastic animal figures, usually on an archery course, is called 3D shooting.

"3D" because the targets are three-dimensional, and the shots are fired not only in a flat field, but also up and down. 3D shooting is modeled on hunting, but no animals are harmed.

The situation is modeled as closely as possible on hunting. The shooter must attempt to hit the target through forks in branches, up slopes, or from tree stands, while standing, kneeling, or even lying down.

The goal is to place the arrow into the kill zone of the stylized animal, i.e., the area where the heart and lungs would be located. A course typically consists of around 28 targets, at each of which a maximum of three arrows may be shot. If a target is hit, the remaining arrows are not fired.

There are also individual targets or, on smaller courses, the option of a so-called "hunter" scoring system, where only a single arrow is shot. It is fired from a stake. The archer must be behind and touching this stake when firing to ensure a level playing field for all archers.

There are often stakes at different distances for young people, archers with bows and those without sights.
