How do you glue your vanes/feathers?
This question is often asked in conversations among archers, and you'll get about as many answers as there are archers present. I'd like to introduce my method, which works equally well for vanes and feathers. I use 99% isopropanol (or any other high-proof alcohol, such as disinfectant, which everyone already has at home).
An Aerobond glue set consisting of three bottles of superglue (thin, medium, and thick), plus an activator spray. A cloth or paper towel. The Aerobond set is available at Conrad in a bin in the model making department. I'm familiar with it from model making and have used it for all sorts of things for years. It's a high-quality, industrial-grade superglue that can't be compared to conventional glue.
Superglues are cyanoacrylate-based adhesives, so if you find this designation on the tube/bottle of your preferred glue, the activator spray from the set will also work!
In step 1, I clean the shafts with a cloth soaked in alcohol.
In step 2, I clamp the spring/vane into the clamp and wipe the adhesive surface with alcohol.
In step 3 , I apply the glue to the vane or spring, I use the thick superglue from the set (but this method also works with any other superglue), and spray the shaft with some of the activator.
In step 4, I place the clamp with the spring/vane onto the shaft and give the whole thing a few seconds to set.
Now I repeat steps 2 through 4 until the arrow is fully fletched. I hope this report has been helpful to someone.
