Para Riflemen in Vinicne

Para Riflemen in Vinicne - Bogensportinfo

On Saturday, the Slovak archery club “Blue Arrows” invited people to a tournament in Vinicne.

Friedrich Ziegler and Martin Wegerer quickly decided to use the tournament as preparation for the coming season and were happy to accept the 1.5 and 2.5 hour journey.

First of all, it should be mentioned that the organizers made every effort to support the shooters in every way possible. While not everything was 100% wheelchair accessible, the organizers were happy to help wherever it was needed.

Arriving at the facility, we soon met other para shooters from Slovakia, in all age groups! The youngest participant was Simon, 12 years old! So, there were several para shooters among the many participants.

For Martin Wegerer, this was his first archery competition outside of our country, and accordingly, a certain amount of nervousness was noticeable. However, with the help of Friedrich Ziegler, who had a clear advantage thanks to his experience, both were able to get off to a good start.

With the wind changing, it soon became apparent that Friedrich's experience was helping him cope better, while Martin lost some ground as the qualifying round progressed. Although neither shooter was particularly satisfied at the end of the qualifying round (Friedrich scored 639 points, Martin 621), both shooters nevertheless entered the elimination round feeling motivated.

This was another first for Martin, but his opponent was too strong. Things were going better for Friedrich, who was able to fight his way through to the next round. At the end of the day, the team was self-critical and happy to have used this opportunity to prepare.
