In archery, the draw length is a standardized size of the bow and a personal characteristic of the archer.
In general, it is the measure of how far the bowstring is drawn in a straight line, and specifically, as a fixed value and term, the maximum distance of this distance at fulldraw . The draw length is specified in inches according to the AMO standard .
The nocking point is the point on the string where the end of the arrow—the nock —is notched . It is the point of force transfer from the string to the arrow and the point farthest from the bow during the draw (the bend in the string). The addition of 1 3/4 inches is a historical artifact and reflects older practice, in which the draw length was measured from the nocking point to the leading edge of the bow. This makes both measurements roughly comparable.
To measure the draw length, a so-called inch or measuring arrow can be used. This is an extra-long arrow without a tip or fletching, with a nock at the butt and a marked inch scale, the zero point of which is the lowest point in the nock. The arrow is nocked, nocked, and drawn like a normal arrow. A second person reads the measurement at the pivot point by observing from the side.
