The 3D Meteor Parcours – Archery in the Nördlinger Ries with a cosmic story
Anyone who visits SV Lehmingen-Dornstadt today immediately senses that passion, community and a spirit of innovation are at home here. The club, which was founded in 1974, looks back on an eventful history: For decades, football was the focus, until 2016, when a lack of players led to a new era – the birth of the shooting department.
What began as a bold new beginning has developed into a success story in just ten years. Today, SV Lehmingen-Dornstadt has over 70 active archers, including around 30 children and young people. Major tournaments such as the legendary Kirchweih tournament with the “Nerves of Steel” challenge, as well as numerous DBSV and DSB championships, have made the club known far beyond the region.
In 2024, the SVLD went one step further and opened its own 4D archery cinema – a modern training and fun highlight that took enthusiasm for archery to a new level. But the absolute masterpiece followed a year later:
A course like no other – the 3D Meteor Course
On September 13, 2025, the 3D Meteor Parcours was officially inaugurated in the Nördlinger Ries – a project that combines nature, history and archery in a unique way.
Around 15 million years ago, a meteorite with a diameter of about one kilometer hit here and created the enormous 25-kilometer-wide Ries crater. Right at its edge, nestled in an idyllic mixed forest, the new 3D course invites you to an unforgettable shooting experience.
More than 100 lifelike 3D animals await the shooters at around 30 varied stations. The course is equipped with four target pegs – ideal for beginners as well as experienced archers. For particularly ambitious archers, there are also the BSE stakes (Extreme Archery), which require the highest precision and concentration.
But the 3D Meteor Parcours is much more than just a sporting adventure: it is also an educational trail. Each destination is provided with an informative station sign – with profiles of the animals and exciting insights into the history of the giant. Thus, every tour becomes a journey of discovery through nature, geology and history.
The highlight: The flying meteor
A special highlight awaits visitors at the end of the course: the flying meteor. This impressive, approximately 1.8-meter-tall self-built project shoots through the air with impressive momentum—a creative symbol of the giant's cosmic past and an absolute photo opportunity.
